Should we care about the earth?
Updated: May 16, 2024

The earth, some say it’s warming, some say it’s not, some say we need to help it, some say we need to lighten up.
Should we care for the earth? Earth day is this month, tomorrow actually, and a lot of people are saying that we need to help that earth, we need to recycle, clean up the plastic, reduce emissions, and much more.
But is the earth warming? Is it really that bad? Aren’t we being dramatic? And what can we do about all this?
The question of if the earth is warming is not necessarily up for debate. It’s more the reason why it’s warming, or why we are having these changes that is questioned. Many people believe the reason we are seeing the earth warming is because of carbon dioxide (co2) being produced at such a high rate that the earth cannot naturally cycle through it, there’s too much. So this high concentration of co2 is causing a greenhouse effect, which basically means it’s holding the heat in on the earth, so the earth is getting warmer. Now some believe the co2 isn’t causing this warming, some say it’s just a cycle of the earth. The earth goes through cycles of warming and cooling and we are just in a warming cycle.
Now both of these are actually true, the earth does have cycles that it goes through, but co2 does have effects on the atmosphere and the environment. But, are these effects as major as some people say they are? Well, that is another topic of debate. Though the severity of these things can be bad, can they be catastrophic is questionable.
But, should we do anything to help? And can we help? Shouldn’t we just let earth do its natural thing?
Well, we do have an impact on the environment, even if it’s just the local ecosystems around us. So though the extent of that impact may be questionable, we can be responsible and take care of what we can.
Things like, recycling, using reusable items, buying second-hand, not using or reducing use of harmful chemicals, not littering, keeping our yards clean, gardening, and many more. The effects of some of these things is also up for debate, however, these practices will help in other ways like saving you money, your overall health, and even just keeping the place clean and beautiful.
So regardless of your views on these issues there are practical things you can do to help the ecosystems and environment around you, and even if they don’t have a major impact on the earth as a whole, there are positive benefits from them that make them worth the time and effort.
The earth is where we live, and live a house or a car we should take care of it and not trash the place. But that doesn’t mean we have to go overboard or be obsessed with it, we need a healthy balance. Just don’t litter, please.
